 I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Life is crazy at home working to raise my two little girls Emily and Caitlyn with the help of my wife Cheryl.
As far as teaching, I am an Instructor Trainer with Paddle Canada and teach at several paddling schools around Ontario. I have been kayaking for just under 15 years but didn’t take it very seriously until about 8 years ago when I got certified as an instructor. Before that I taught flatwater canoeing for 4-5 years.
I enjoy getting out in really big water. Rockhopping and kayak surfing will put a big smile on my face really quickly. There have been various reports from other paddlers of little girl screaming coming from my direction but nothing has been confirmed... Right now they are just reports.
Then teaching courses, I always like to ask students why they like to get out paddling. Some people use a kayak as a vehicle to get out in the wilderness, others like the zen of the sport. I just like to get out and do it. For me, it doesn’t matter if I am paddling in the wilderness or urban environment (90% of the time). There is something really cool about sitting at the take-out at the end of the day of ripping it up on the water knowing that 3 seconds after we drive away, nobody would ever know that we were there. Not many other recreational sports can claim that.
When I am not on the water, I own the web design company, Swim River Designs. We specialize in developing websites and marketing strategies for the outdoor industry.
