First Annual Kayakers 4 Kids Decorated Christmas Parade

Monday, 01 December 2008 23:59 Written by David H. Johnston
tree-santa-kayak-decorationAre you living or visiting Sacramento, California on Saturday, December 13th? If so, then get yourself down to the Sacramento River boat launch near the Virgin Sturgeon Restaurant, 1577 Garden Highway, Sacramento.

Why you might ask? If you don't get there by 6pm then you are going to miss the First Annual Kayakers 4 Kids Decorated Christmas Parade. It's to benefit the UC Davis Children's Hospital.

They are promising kayaks decorated up in with antlers, angel winds and Christmas lights. If you are interested in participating, you are welcome to join the procession by brining your decorated kayaking along with a new unwrapped toy to the event.

Coordinated through the Children's Miracle Network, the event is the brain child of Tom Muntz and his wife, Carrie, who is a Children's Hospital nurse. The couple thought of the idea after friends described a similar event held on the Deschutes River in Bend, Ore.

"Our friends up in Oregon got some little Christmas trees and put lights on them and put them on their kayaks. We have a couple of yard-ornament reindeer, and we've switched them to battery-powered lights, so we thought, why not?" said Tom Muntz, a retired California Highway Patrol sergeant. "I admit, the decorating is going to take a little bit of ingenuity," he added.
