Just heard through the grape vine that here in Ontario the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been stopping canoe and kayakers and performing safety checks. During the transaction, they have been asking to see the rental agreement paperwork from the outfitter.
Megan from Naturally Superior Adventures gave the OPP a call to confirm if this was a new policy and they confirmed that they are going to start asking paddlers to show proof it's a rental just to make sure that the boat isn't stolen.
I think that it is a great idea but outfitters will need to start making a quick copy of the paper work before sending out boats. Not sure what they could ask from people who own their boats since boat registration isn't yet required in most jurisdictions.
