Friend of the site, Tony Palmer of Undercurrents in Calgary sent me a really cool video from a piece on science show, Daily Planet.
It shows the process of making artificial rivers out of natural rivers and highlights the river course on the Kananaskis River in Alberta.
I knew it was quite a science but never realized just how difficult it was to make that perfect wave.
Also, Tony said that the construction in the video (and some not shown) had a project budget of around $200,000 so it isn't cheap indeed! It took about two years to get the fundraising, grant submitting and permit to make it all come together.
