Search and Rescue

Search and Rescue related resources.

From the website: Learn to choose, install, use, and maintain required emergency equipment for the commercial fishing vessel. Revised in 2005 by Jerry Dzugan, Alaska Marine Safety Education Association.

If you haven't done a VHF course but own a radio, it may be worth reading through the two main protocols and understand them before you need to use them.
Don't the title deceive you, this is a fantastic resource for Sea Kayak Instructors. With over 460 pages of information, this Canadian Government Publication is a very in-depth manual that covers almost every topic of search and rescue seamanship.

Only a handful of the topics include:
  • How Search and Rescue works in Canada.
  • Management styles in a crisis
  • Working with Ropes and Wires
  • Collision Regulations and Rules of the Road
  • Navigation
  • Wave Theory
  • Understanding Weather
  • Emergency Care and Transportation of Maritime Casualties
