Hi Folks,
I have back issues - generally related to spending too much time in an office chair or hunched over a lab bench and not enough time canoeing, kayaking and getting some exercise. Stretching is not something I've ever been very good at, and I seem to promptly forget most of the stretches I learn. However, I endeavour to try to learn. I know stretching is important for me as a lack of flexibility is the source of my back pain, and my doctor, massage therapist, chiropractor, and physiotherapist (I've seen a variety over the years) all tell me to stretch more. All of these professionals have shown or told me about various stretches over the years. The problem is that it's a brief description or demo which I forget by the time I get home.
This is also relevant because I'm a new kayak instructor and I need to now teach this stuff. So, before I can properly teach it, I need to learn it!
I'm looking for a book or a web site that I can review over and over, practicing the stretches for myself and to know the important details of so that I can then teach it to others.
I would appreciate any help or advice you may be able to offer.
I am currently in my third year of a degree in Outdoor education and recreation. My specialty is sea kayak.
Im am completing research for an assignment and would really like some more opinions from the wider sea kayak community.
What is your opinion on the following statement?
Do you agree disagree with this statement? Are you working in an area that proves this true or false?
“While outdoor education theory has moved towards a more holistic purpose, many instructors remain focused on teaching sea kayaking as a pursuit, with performance measures linked to personal paddling skill.”
Thank you. I really appreciate any time you put into replying to me!
