It’s a pretty safe bet that the underground world of Freestyle canoe dancing got its biggest publicity shot last night after getting featured on the Colbert Report.

Stephen Colbert decided that since the NFL season will likely be cancelled; America needed a new sport to get behind and canoe dancing easily fits the bill.

After watching a couple dramatic clips of paddlers spinning around to sappy 1980’s ballads, Colbert remarked, “That is what is killing the Broadway musical. Not enough small craft boating.”

He ended up the great piece with promises of following up on the competition throughout the summer season.

“This high octane, man-verses-nature-verses-show tunes-verses-human-attention-span action will more then make up for the cancelled NFL season. So this summer, are you ready for some Monday night paddle dancing!?!?!?”
