Point 65 Kayaks Snags top Scandinavian Designer [Kayak Design]

By: David H. Johnston on Monday July 06, 2009 Published in Industry Stuff
New Point 65 XP 18Point 65 Kayaks announced the addition of a new designer to their team, Magnus De Brito who is one of Scandinavia’s leading product designers.

Magnus has been designing stuff all his life including the first commercially viable wind surfing harness but really made it to the big-times when he headed up projects for Porsche, Scania Trucks, Intelligent Sound and Pirelli Boats.

Now he has been brought on to Point 65 to overhaul their new XP series boats as well as design their new boat, the Tequila.

It doesn’t take a trained eye to see the changes to the new prototype XP 18. There is a large oval hatch on the foredeck replacing the small round one. The bow has been greatly influenced by surf skies and is much sharper slicing through the water.

This is just a prototype so there isn’t much information on the site in regards the specs or dimensions but you have to admit that it is one good looking boat. The only thing that seems to be missing is perimeter lines. Maybe it is because it is in prototype status.

I’m looking forward to seeing it in real life!

Congrats to Point 65 for snagging a designer that is putting a pile of effort into both looks and efficiency on the water.
