Request for Proposals to Host Whitewater Courses and Parks 2009 Conference
Tuesday, 20 May 2008
(Silver Spring, MD) - The Paddlesports Industry Association and The Shimoda Group, LLC have announced the availability of a Request for Proposals to host the Whitewater Courses and Parks 2009 (WWCP 2009) conference. WWCP 2009 is the third international event for project advocates, municipal leaders, regulators, environmental scientists.

"Whitewater parks are a fixture in American and around the world," notes Risa Shimoda, conference Co-Chair and President of the Shimoda Group, LLC. "Whether an in-stream modification or a totally artificial course, whitewater parks provide economic development and recreation opportunities in communities as diverse as Charlotte, North Carolina and Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Stakeholders are now sharing a wealth of insight from which others can learn, gain efficiency and avoid tremendous heartache."

Matt Menashes, Co-Chair and President & CEO of the Paddlesports Industry Association continues, "Over forty projects have been completed in the US alone, with well over one hundred installed or in planning stages here and around the world. This growth has fixed whitewater courses on the radar screens of regulators, land managers and permitting agencies. This conference provides one-stop shopping to learn about key issues and updates in the evolution of design, construction and outlook for the sustainability of these facilities."

This will be the third biennial conference: the first was held in Glenwood Springs (2005) and the sceond in McHenry, Maryland, each of which is home to a recently-completed course. Communities interested in hosting the conference should contact Matt Menashes at the number below to get a copy of Request for Proposal. The conference will be held sometime between April and June, 2009.
